so I delete those & redo step 1, leading to step 1.ģ. Thus I'm thinking what's the difference, what does calibre do that i did not do manualky. This time: All OK - they show up in "books" & are readable. I delete those, connect via USB instead, send same 4 books from calibre. the android OS does not know what to do with the format.Ģ. the result is as I recalled from previous testing, I get 4 downloaded files that I can't "open with" kindle reader because it won't play. I download them to kindle fire tablet, from the library copy that i have in dropbox. So I picked out 4 books that are already in azw3 in my calibre library &ġ. decide I'd have to get stuck in & re-test. so I read lots of threads - got even more confused. #4 cybmole 10-18-2014, 09:39 AMupdate - I realised that I was hopelessly confused on this issue. mobi files, but also that the mobi format does not support all of the epub-like functionality that azw includes, so calibre: epub -> mobi -> kindle or calibre: azw3 -> mobi -> kindle could lose some formatting ? I read that is is relatively easy to sideload. general non-drm epub, withouth downgrading to mobi format de DRMd epub purchase, converted by calibre to AZW3 Or maybe I have to manually lose the "3" - a dummies guide for this would be good, covering how to sideload from PC / from cloud storage. its probably looking for some field or code that identifies is as a genuine book-from-amazon. The obvious route of epub -> azw3 in calibre then send to device, never worked when i tested it. Maybe it accepts some books, some of the time, but if so, I cannot figure out the criteria, #3 cybmole 10-18-2014, 06:44 AMthe same limitation is there when I move azw via usb, either manually or with calibre, or via dropbox my kindle fire does not accept them as books
